“What if” anime movie posters

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Check out these cool-looking (but unfortunately, fake) movie posters made by fans imagining what the movie posters would look like for their favorite as yet unmade anime series.
Above is my favorite of the bunch, based on the Evangelion anime TV series. It’s so good you’d have to look twice to find out it isn’t legit.
There [...]

Voltron flick a “go”… again

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

You see, you just can’t keep a good universe-saving, interlocking, lion themed giant flying robot with badass laser-powered sword down.
After being dumped by Fox-based film production outfit New Regency Pictures, the live- action adaptation of the beloved anime series was recently picked up by Relativity Media.
The new outfit will rely on a smaller budget, but [...]

Ponyo and Pokemon flicks top Japan box office

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Hayao Miyazaki’s first full-length feature film in four years, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, is still at the top of the cliff, so to speak, of Japanese cinema this past weekend, beating out Kunihiko Yuyama’s Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl: Giratina to Sora no Hanataba Shaymin, the 11th installment in the venerable (and [...]

Keanu Reeves to headline live action Cowboy Bebop?

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

We already know Keanu Reeves is no stranger to playing comic book heroes on the movie screen but what about manga? Specifically, is there any truth to the rumor going around that Keanu is slated to play the intergalactic bounty hunter known as Spike in the live-action adaptation of the wildly popular manga and anime [...]

New Doraemon film and trailer

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

I love Doraemon, I do. I used to catch the late-night reruns and just laugh, all alone in the silence of a sleeping house.
That said, the 29th installment of this uber-long-lasting franchise has just been announced, and an online trailer released to boot.
Doraemon: Shin Nobita no Uch? Kaitakushi (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s How Space [...]

Dragon Ball live action poster out, for real!

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Well, well. Just as we here at Anime Comic News were losing our patience, 20th Century Fox releases its first official Dragon Ball poster, shown above.
Pretty basic, pretty obvious with the back-turned-to-us pose and the glowing ball and the pointy (though for my taste not quite pointy enough) hair… but still… pretty damned cool!
The text [...]

Is the live-action Dragonball a fake film?

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Okay, so there’s supposed to this live-action film adaptation of the classic Dragonball anime series. It’s on IMDB and all. It just so happens that there are no photos, posters, trailers, leaks, news or anything. Google searches will net you a plethora of fan-made stuff, this mock-up poster on the left included. But so far, [...]

Akemi Takada tries her hand at CG

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Akemi Takada designed some of the most iconic anime characters of my generation, Maison Ikkoku and Kimagure Orange Road among them. Personally, I think her Mobile Police Patlabor stuff is as good as it gets, character and mecha-wise.
Now Ms. Takada will be trying her at hand at 3D computer graphics, and has announced an unnamed [...]

New Miyazaki film. Nuff said.

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

I can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait.
A new Hayao Miyazaki film is always a reason to celebrate, and I pray we won’t have long to wait until this one gets an English version.
Ponyo on the Cliff By The Sea (Gake no Ue no Ponyo) tells the story of a cute little goldfish who longs to [...]

Shamo writer and artist in rights squabble

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Shamo is a ultra-violent crime manga drawn by Akio Tanaka and written by the series’ credited creator, Izo Hashimoto. It started in 1998 but came to an indefinite halt in January this year.
Last week Tanaka filed US$1.4M suit against Hashimoto, claiming that he, Tanaka, is the rightful creator of the story and character concepts.
A [...]
